At Navy Fitness Mid-South Massage athleticism is our passion. We understand the dedication required by athletes to achieve and retain their personal goals. Sports Massage will help release any built up tension and lactic acid in the overworked muscles allowing blood and oxygen to return to the muscle and promote muscle repair.
There are several types of Sports Massage that are beneficial:
• Pre-event massage –a short, vigoroussession aimed at warming muscle fibers and increasing blood flow.
• Post-event massage – a longer session to ease over used and exhausted muscles and aid recovery time within 1 to 24 hours after the big event.
• Maintenance session – regular massage sessions during your training program. Regularity of these sessions depend on how often and how hard you train. They are custom tailored to your body’s needs to aid recovery time, increase range of motion, as well as boost the immune system by stimulating lymphatic flow.
What are some of the benefits of therapeutic massage?
Therapeutic massage offers many benefits beyond simple relaxation. Here are just a few of the health problems that may benefit from massage.
Reducing Stress helps problems such as headaches, backaches, neck pain, anxiety, depression, irritability, high blood pressure, heart disease, ulcers, as well as physical and emotional exhaustion.
Relaxing Muscles helps free the range of motion. Muscles can become tight and ineffective for many reasons. Massage therapy stretches and loosens tight muscles and connective tissue.
Improving Circulation increases the exchange of substances between the blood and tissue cells. Massage therapy releases muscles...like a sponge that is squeezed, a tight muscle can’t hold much fluid or allow much fluid to pass through it. This decreases your circulation of blood and increases the strain placed on your heart.
Therapeutic Massage is helpful for arthritis, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s, Peri- and postmenopausal issues, migraine relief, sinusitis relief, relief from carpel tunnel, plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder and other muscular imbalances.

Full Body Massage
Massage will consist of several modalities used to customize your session. Through a simple review session, we may use a mixture of Swedish, deep tissue and sports modalities, as well as stretching to correct musculoskeletal imbalances.
Deep Tissue Massage
Massage will focus on the deeper layers of the muscle tissue to release chronic tension in the body using slow strokes and deep pressure applied across the grain of the muscle. Deep tissue usually focuses on specific areas or issues. Soreness is common after a deep tissue massage and may only last a few days. The benefits of receiving this massage will help to breakup and eliminate scar tissue and muscular knots.
Swedish Massage to improve lymphatic and blood circulation, as well as improve muscle tension. The mother-to-be is lying on her side with bolsters and pillows for comfort. Please note that massage is not recommended during the first trimester. Please talk with your doctor before making an appointment to be sure massage is appropriate for you and your baby.
